Part 1 . . .
Dear Barb (or current reader - this was first composed as an e-mail),
Maybe if I write down those things God speaks to my heart, He'll know I am listening and that I take Him seriously, so maybe He'll talk more and louder to me next time. Anyway, here is what I've heard so far this week. I call it "Are you a rainbow watcher?"
Lora
On May 14, 2002 on my way to work, between 7:00 and 7:20 a.m., my husband and I were driving west into the most beautiful vivid rainbow ever. The rising sun was shining through a west-hanging sheet of rain. We stopped to try to get a picture, but the camera I usually carry to take pictures of my students had dead batteries! So my husband and I just pulled over and enjoyed it for as long as I had time (without being late to work).
I had never seen a complete - over the sky - complete half circle rainbow! It was awesome, but there was no way for me to preserve it - to share with others! That fact sort of tainted the experience. My frustration overtook my wonder. Then I purposed to get batteries in my camera later - this would never happen again I said to myself.
That evening I went to church choir practice and on the ride home - between 8 and 8:30 p.m. the setting sun shined onto a wall of rain in the east! Ugh! Another perfect rainbow, with a hint of a paler-lighter one right above it! A Double Complete RAINBOW! It was just north of Milan as seen from US-23. I have never seen one in 43 years and now two in one day! And still no way to document it! As a teacher I have an inner passion to document and share what I find with others! This was unbearable frustration! But again, Rene and I just stopped again and looked at the rainbow. This time we got out of the car.
Well, God taught me something that night. I almost missed sharing this special moment with Rene. On the way home, I was soundly rebuked by the Holy Spirit and I then quietly rejoiced in the fact that we had this moment to share and that I had a fellow "rainbow watcher" to spend the rest of my life with. My husband was really the most important person on the planet to share this with.
Some things that beautiful and BIG are meant to be experienced first hand. They are the kind of things you just hide in your heart and recall in your mind's eye when you need an "awesome and wonderful God moment." It also helps to recall, that your husband is not a person who leaves the cupboard doors open, or one who forgets to get the oil changed in the car or the guy that never pays attention to your "to do list." He is a "rainbow watcher." Precious moments - batteries not included! |
